Marble and gilded bronze centerpiece, France, early 19th century
Period: Early 19th century
Measures H x L x P
Marble and gilded bronze centerpiece, France, early 19th century Measurements: cm 49 H x 49 L x 19 D Price: confidential negotiation object accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This particular centerpiece was made of white marble and finely chiseled gilded bronze in France between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The refined architecture consists of a mixtilinear base with a wavy profile in white marble resting on eight gilded bronze feet. The base simulates a portion of architecture with steps and a balustrade made of openwork and gilded bronze. On it rest at both ends, on quadrangular bases in black Belgian marble, two columns decorated with gilded bronze elements. On their tops rest two gilded bronze curtains of a canopy, culminating in a large bronze plume and marble dome. At the center of the base and next to the columns stands the sculpture of a Roman soldier, dressed in armor and holding a small sword extracted from the scabbard. This sculptural group is very decorative and impressive. It can be placed as a centerpiece but also on top of a console, a chest of drawers, in front of a mirror or on a desk and bookcase. The brilliance of the gold and the luminosity of the marble give the object preciousness and make it suitable for any type of furniture.
