Pair of large oriental lacquered wood vases, late 19th century Measurements: cm H 142 x 69 x 69. Base cm 51 x 51 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity This pair of monumentally sized vases was made in Europe towards the end of the 19th century in an oriental style. Made of wood entirely lacquered in black, the vases are finely decorated with paintings, in polychrome and golden lacquer, reminiscent of the cloisonné technique. They are divided into two separable parts: square bases, with mixtilinear profiles and moving and arched legs, on which the vases rest. These are made up of three inseparable portions. The lower one, in the shape of a truncated pyramid, has smooth sides that tend to widen downwards, the reverse median and the upper one, with a square section, follows a trumpet pattern that narrows in the center and widens again towards the top. Each side of each portion, including the bases, is decorated with oriental motifs: geometric and phytomorphic decorations, landscapes and characters, birds, are inspired by the characteristic production of Japan and China, very popular in Europe, already starting from the 18th century. The two vases are very decorative, thanks to their color and considerable size. They can be placed in many environments, from entrances to lounges, studies, rooms, where they will bring the timeless charm of the Orient. It is also possible to use them as planters, after inserting a metal container. There are some small flaws in the lacquerwork, for which we can have a restoration done.
