This elegant secretaire was made in Piedmont during the neoclassical period, in the second half of the 18th century. Made of veneered and inlaid wood, it consists of two parts. The upper portion features a curved undertop band, decorated with geometric inlays made with three different wood species in the shape of a rhombus which, when assembled together, create a three-dimensional cube-shaped motif. The darker wood reserves are made of rosewood, while the inlays are made of bois de rose and boxwood. At the top, just below the top, there is a secret drawer concealed by the undertop band. On the front, veneered in rosewood, a drop-front features a decoration with inlays that create repeatedly intersecting circles. Among the interior spaces, green wood flowers are inlaid. In the center of the door is inlaid a shield with a heraldic coat of arms of a noble family and the initials V. B.. Opening the drop-front, the space is divided into open compartments and seven drawers. The interiors are veneered in bois de rose and bordered in rosewood. The surface that is created, which can be used as a writing desk, is covered in modern leather. The lower portion of the cabinet features a decoration with geometric cube-shaped inlays on two doors, which conceal, once opened, a compartment divided by a shelf. The sides, veneered in rosewood, feature two panels with geometric inlays that echo the design of the undertop band and the central doors. The lower band of the secretaire is curved and mixtilinear, bordered in boxwood, which increases its luminosity and creates small curls. The legs, which continue from the band, are arched and curved. This secretaire is very decorative thanks to the chromatic play skillfully created by the combination of wood species of different colors. Elegant and refined, it can be combined with antique and modern furnishings, placed in multiple environments, such as entrances, living rooms, studies, and bedrooms.
