Bonheur du jour in lacquered wood, Genoa, late 18th century Dimensions: cm W 81.5 x D 51 x H 111.5 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity Refined Genoese bonheur du jour in lacquered wood, made in the late 18th century, an example of great elegance and functionality of Ligurian lacquered furniture in the neoclassical style. The piece features a light lacquer finish, in shades of pink, embellished with blue inlay and delicate polychrome floral decorations, harmoniously distributed on the front, upper section, and drawers. The structure is articulated with an upper section equipped with two small sliding doors, which conceal two compartments, and three lower drawers. The main top is flip-up, allowing for an increased surface area for the desk and protecting the original lacquer during use. A functional feature typical of more refined writing furniture. When opened, the shelf rests on two side pull-outs for support and stability. The interior of the piece and the drawers are lined with blue decorative paper with designs, a rare and charming detail that testifies to the attention to decoration even in less visible areas. Below the flip-up top, there is an additional drawer with a lock, which is not lined. The piece is completed by a tiltable footrest, an element of comfort and a further confirmation of its intended use as a drawing-room or boudoir desk. This piece of furniture is of high quality, bright and decorative, an expression of the Genoese tradition of 18th-century lacquering, capable of combining elegance, functionality, and collector's taste. Its contained and slender proportions make it particularly versatile and suitable even for smaller spaces, whether paired with antique or modern furnishings. Conservative restoration will be carried out shortly.
