Distinct mahogany center table, France, early 19th century Dimensions: cm W 69 x D 41 x H 73. The legs have a max width of cm 48.5 x D 39 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity The center table dates back to the early 19th century, French manufacture. Made of mahogany wood, it consists of a rectangular top with curved short sides. The top has a drop-leaf opening and inside it features a mirror and small drawers, compartments and secret storage for personal items. The under-top band, very refined, is decorated with handles useful for opening a drawer and a lock in chiseled and gilded bronze. Gilded bronze reserves frame various segments, bringing decoration and brightness to the whole. The four legs are composed of columns with gilded bronze capitals, fluted and gilded shafts, and cylindrical bases contoured by gilded bronze rings. The bases of the columns rest on a cube element that optically separates the legs from the feet. A shelf with a shaped profile and edged in gilded metal is inserted in the internal corners of the dice. The feet consist of a circular element bordered by a gilded bronze ring resting on an inverted truncated cone that ends in a refined tip also in gilded bronze. This table is distinguished by its simple but elegant line and the quality of workmanship. This is confirmed by the type of application of the bronzes, made without the use of external screws and therefore not visible. Stylistically, the creator of the furniture was inspired by the famous artifacts of the great cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener (1734 - 1806). The table can be easily placed in any environment, such as a living room between two sofas, in a study next to an armchair, in an entrance or in a bedroom. Very decorative, thanks to its austere and elegant line, it can be combined with both antique and contemporary furnishings.
