Piedmontese painter from the second half of the 18th century, Two Still Lifes with compositions of flowers, fruit, and mushrooms Measurements: Frames: cm W 63 x H 74 x D 8.5 - canvases cm W 39.5 x H 51 and cm W 45 x H 56 Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity The paintings, executed in oil on canvas and in good condition, depict two still lifes with compositions of flowers and fruits. Stylistically, the author should be sought among the painters active in Piedmont during the second half of the 18th century. The work presented here on the left depicts in the foreground a wicker basket filled with white grapes and vine leaves, in front of which are two overturned porcini mushrooms. In the background, a ceramic vase adorned with bas-reliefs depicting "putti games" is enriched by a rich composition of flowers in shades of red, white, yellow, and blue. The setting is outdoors and against a dark background, some hints of landscape can be distinguished. The painting on the left also consists of two still lifes, in the foreground and background. In front, a composition of vine and white grapes with currants, peaches, and an apple is laid on the ground, while beyond, on a step, is a round vase filled with flowers in the varieties of reds, yellows, whites, and blues. Nothing can be seen of the landscape context; the still lifes emerge from the dark background thanks to the lively colors. The works are of good pictorial quality, characterized by a fine and sure brushstroke. Very decorative, they are pleasant to display in pairs or interspersed with other furnishings. Their size allows them to be displayed in any environment and are certainly suitable for both contexts characterized by antique and modern furnishings. The frames are made of gilded wood, from the 19th century.
