Pair of rare console tables in carved and lacquered wood, Piedmont, 18th century Measurements: H 90 x W 120 x D 57 cm Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity This rare pair of elegant Baroque console tables was made in Piedmont in the 18th century, in carved and lacquered wood. The top, in Bardiglio faux marble lacquered wood, features a shaped and slightly undulating edge, with a particular flare towards the wall: the rear part indeed widens, creating a pleasant fan effect that emphasizes the development of the base. The underlying structure, sinuous and slender, is richly carved with volutes, shell ornaments, and floral motifs. The carved relief ornaments are lacquered in warm yellow tones, while the recessed areas on the sides and in the center are in blue, colors typical of 18th-century Piedmontese furniture, which give the console tables a refined yet luminous character, easily fitting into both classic settings and more contemporary interiors. The frieze below the top features a front drawer, a functional detail that adds a practical characteristic while perfectly integrating into the harmony of the design. The wall-mounted console tables rest at the front on two legs that originate from rich corner carvings with volutes and descending floral festoons. The legs are sinuous and fluted with alternating yellow and blue lacquer and feature leafy elements and volutes at the feet. The legs, which tend to converge downwards towards the center in their movement, are joined by a stretcher composed of an elaborate pierced central motif that provides stability and lightness while maintaining a strong decorative presence. The combination of the beautiful polychromy, the faux Bardiglio top, and the movement of the sculpture widening towards the wall makes this pair particularly sought after: ideal for placement on either side of a door, beneath a pair of mirrors or paintings, or as a support for lamps and art objects, they are pieces of furniture with a strong scenic impact and authentic 18th-century Piedmontese taste. A conservation restoration will be carried out shortly.
